Open House Party

We had our Open House farewell party Saturday, on an outstandingly beautiful day in Edinburgh. There wasn't a cloud in the blue, blue Scottish sky, and the temperature was an unheard of 76*.  Lots of friends, neighbors and family showed up to enjoy the best selection of catered food (MacKenzies), and a very good assortment of beverages.  Since we can't take any of our fine collection of whiskey or liqueurs (thank you US Customs), to say nothing of my Italian Limencello or Prosecco, we just plonked it all out on the table and everyone could drink what they wanted.

We were convinced it would rain, so we rented a marquee, but instead, notice that blue, cloudless sky...it was such a glorious day.  The marquee worked just as well as a shelter from the sun, and outside, on the lawn to the right, it was shaded so those wanting out of the sun could sit in the cooler shade.

Alan, dressed for Italy.  And believe me, this is the first time he's been able to wear his Italian holiday clothes since we haven't had a Summer here in the past two years.

Now.  I'm sure a real hostess would have remembered her blasted camera once the guests arrived.  I got so involved in greeting, talking, filling drinks, etc., that I totally, completely forgot..!!!  Aarrggghhh.  I was standing on the path, saying goodbye to one of Alan's second cousins, much later in the day, when she said, "I brought my camera and never took a single picture..!!"  Crap.  You and me both, Angela...

It was a wonderful day, and a great party.  Though, it was also poignant because there's every likelihood we won't see some of these folks ever again.  Still, it was a perfect chance to say goodbye, and to spend the day with family and friends.

See what I dope I am..??  I managed to take a photo of some tulips in the foyer, but neglected to take pictures of people.  What can I say..??  I guess I'll have to go with Alan's take on things:  "Oh well.  We've got our memories."
