Made it to York

Yikes, what a day. We left the house at 11:30 this morning, with fare-the-wells from our immediate neighbors. It was sad, but also amazing that after two very long years, today finally arrived.

It was a beastly weather day, so my last view of Edinburgh, castle rising above the city, Arthur's Seat looming over all, the steeple of St. Giles Cathedral, was especially compelling.
And then, to make it even more special, this was my last view of Scotland.  We drove over Carter Bar, stopped for a bacon and egg roll (one of our favorite things to do on a regular drive), ate in the car in a drenching downpour, and drove out of the parking area into England.  My last sight of Scotland:
Here's an example of the driving conditions nearly the whole way.
So, though it took us hours, due to weather and traffic and stops for either Ozzy or Costa coffee, we finally arrived in York at 5:30 this evening.  We checked in, then took Oz for a long stroll through the medieval cobblestone streets of York until we got too cold and hungry.

Our room.  It's very cosy--even Ozzy thinks so--and is just a couple blocks, if that, from York Minster.  We found Bettys and will hit that tomorrow before we leave...yum, yum.

All things considered, it's been an interesting day, though I would rather have seen more of it than we did.  The weather was truly awful.  Still, we've begun the journey.  Tomorrow we leave York and head to London.  With any luck, the further south we go, the better the weather.  And tomorrow I get to go to Bettys...yippee..!!
